What I Wore Wednesday

Yesterday was the first day of spring and our high was 30 degrees! I don't think Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog's prediction was right about an early spring. :) The good thing is that the sun has been shining and it's warm inside. It has been very hard to decide what to wear because I don' want to wear my winter clothes because it is spring but I can't wear my spring clothes because it's cold. What is a girl to do? (sigh)

Framed Bunny Tutorial

 I just love the cute, faux animal heads I have been seeing around blog land and on Pinterest. I don't think they are something I would put in my living room, but I do think they are pretty cute in a kids room or office. I have been wanting to do some kind of faux animal in my daughter's room for awhile now. And with Easter being only a few weeks away I thought a bunny would be perfect. 

Here are some of the supplies I used to get started:

Mod Podge

Hot Glue Gun

Ribbon

White Napkin (Mod Podged to body)

Felt (for ears)

Styrofoam Ball (can be found at any craft store or dollar store)

Pom Poms (for mouth and nose)

Buttons (for eyes)

Black Thread (whiskers)

I cut my styrofoam ball in half. I felt like I was cutting up a piece of fruit. I had the cutting board and knife 

out . I wasn't messing around here peeps.

 After I was done cutting I laid out my napkin and cut off a square to put around the bunny's head. I wanted a little texture and the styrofoam was a little to blah for me. 

I then wrapped the napkin around the cut half of the styrofoam ball and taped the napkin to the back to make it lay flat. I then started to apply the Mod Podge.  You will need to let it dry for about 20 minutes before handling it.

I also Mod Podged black thread to use for the whiskers. I didn't want droopy whiskers so I used Mod Podge to make them stiffer.

I then cut the strands of thread into pieces (after the Mod Podge was done drying). I hot glued the cut thread to the pink and two white poms and then glued it to the stryofoam half. 

I then cut out two ears from white felt and hot glued them to the styrofoam ball and also glued the eyes on. I didn't use a pattern for the ears I just started cutting until they started to look like ears. I am sure there are bunny ear pattern that you could use.

I used this pink brush pen that I got in a kit from Hobby Lobby to color inside the bunny ears.

Once I colored the inside of the ears, I added a little bow and tucked in a little piece of pink felt under the two white poms for a bunny mouth.

I had an old frame and mat from a project that never got done so I decided to use that to frame the bunny.

And since this is a framed bunny, I decided it needed a name plate. I had this label from another project, but you could easily cut out your own. I colored in the corners with the pink marker I used for the ears and glued it onto the mat.  

My daughter name the bunny Babsy. I think it is a combination of bunny and baby. :)

I used double sided tape to stick Babsy onto the wall. 

I think Babsy turned out pretty cute!

What I Wore Wednesday

Hello lovelies and welcome back to another edition of WIWW! It has been a busy week here at my house. I am trying to get all of my projects done inside before the weather gets nice. I don't know why but it feels like winter has just been hanging around longer this year. So, spring if you can make an appearance soon that would be awesome!

Spring Mantel

Most of our snow has finally melted and I have been busy decorating inside. I am really hoping it gets a little bit warmer so I can start spray painting. I have so many things that I need to paint. I am not complaining though because I will take 50 degree weather over the snow and cold any day!  Anyway, the real reason for this post is to share my spring mantel with all of you. I tried to go for an organic, earthy feel this year. I went to different rooms in the house and stole borrowed a few things to make it feel complete. 

The one thing that I struggle with my mantel is trying to make it not so dreary. The stone on the fireplace tends to make everything blend together. I think adding some pops of yellow makes the other decor stand out a little bit more.

I bought these two little birds at a garage sale a few years back. I didn't even have to repaint them! I added some basket filling that I bought from the the Dollar Tree to make it look like the birds are in a nest. The candlesticks came from Goodwill a few years ago. I used Heirloom White by Rustoleum to paint the candlesticks.

  The chalkboard came from Goodwill . It originally started out as a picture of some trees, I really liked the size of the frame and the color. I flipped the picture around and painted it with chalkboard paint. 

The bicycle is from Hobby Lobby (probably 7 years ago). The old coffee pitcher was bought at a garage sale.

These yellow, dutch shoes are one of my recent finds from Goodwill. I love that they are yellow!

I love stacking/layering items on old books it just makes the item that much more interesting. The old whiskey jug was my great aunt's who passed away a few years ago. I thought it looked springy with the blue tulips and I love the fact that it came from somebody special. It makes me smile!

What I Wore Wednesday

It is still winter here and the only signs of spring are the decorations in my house. It supposed to get warmer this weekend so I am looking forward to seeing the snow melt and starting to see my spring flowers bloom. It has been really hard to put outfits together because I am so ready for some change in the weather.

Spring Wreath!

There is 4 to 8 inches of snow in the forecast today and it's March. I am OVER this winter stuff and ready for some spring. I decided to make a springy wreath to put on my front door to make it feel more like spring in my home. Of course, I wanted to do something cheap and unique. I found this gumball spring wreath from Fit, Crafty, Stylish and Happy and just loved it. 

Here is my version of the wreath!

MATERIALS and TUTORIAL

I used 3 bags of cherry sours. I think they were less than a $1.00 a bag. (Warning: you will want to eat cherry sours during your project, maybe get some candy that you don't like) I bought these because they were cheaper than the gumballs. 

I found this floral wreath at the Dollar Tree.

And then you will need your old, trusty hot glue gun to glue the cherry sours onto the wreath.

There really isn't a science to gluing the candy. I just glued where I thought it would look best and tried to keep some kind of pattern.  (Please, remember not to burn yourself in the process. Um, I might have done that a few times)

Here is the wreath with all of the candies glued down. 

I used Rust-oleum apple green spray paint from a left over project to paint the wreath. I sprayed it with one coat (if it was something that would be handled a lot I would put more coats on).

I found some pretty pink ribbon and tied it around the wreath. It was just the right touch of spring.
