Sprucing Up The Patio!

Hello again friends! I hope you are all having a fabulous week. I have been having such a wonderful summer and have been so thankful of this beautiful weather. Last week was a little too hot for me but this week has been a lot cooler and enjoyable. One thing that we have been enjoying this summer is our little patio that my husband finished last fall. I don't have very many before pictures because he is the type that likes to just dig into projects. He gets in the DIY zone and there is no stopping him and I am not always around to get the before shots. :)  I have a few more things left to do with the patio but I wanted to share what it looks like so far.

I love how it is kind of secluded to the side of the house.

I wish I had a before picture of what it looked like without the cobblestone pavers. It wasn't this pretty! Anyway, here is what I started with a few weeks ago.

We bought our two chairs and love seat at Lowes. I had a few opportunities to buy some wicker furniture at garage sales but realized that it really didn't cost that much more to buy new furniture at Lowes and not have to fix it up. I did buy the wicker table at a garage sale a few years ago for $10.00.

I have always dis-liked this telephone box on the house. It is definitely an eye sore and I needed something to hide it. So, I bought a palm tree to cover it up.

You can still see the telephone box but it looks much better with the palm tree sitting in front of it. I have always loved palm trees because they remind me of warmer weather. We don't see very many palm trees in the Midwest. My biggest worry is keeping it alive during the winter months. I bought the palm tree at Meijer for $10.00.

Here is a close up of what the pavers look like!

I received this flower pot from my great aunt after she passed away. It dates back to the 40's and I believe my great grandma had it before her. I love the pop of blue it adds to the patio.

I bought this Pepsi crate at a local antique mall a few years ago. The red pitcher came from my great grandparents supermarket they owned.

I bought these glasses at Goodwill a few years ago as well! I love the numbers.

I found the seat cushions at Wal-Mart and made the pillows. The fabric is duck cloth fabric from Hobby Lobby.

Do you remember the solar light basket I made about a month ago?

I love this lantern! I have a citronella candle in it to keep the bugs away. I need to find a bigger candle but it works for now. Also, do you recognize that mason jar light? I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of light it gives off at night.

Here is side view of the patio.

I still have a few things to do. Maybe an outdoor rug? I have an umbrella but we need to make something to make it more stable so it doesn't fall over when the wind blows. Also, I would like to make something to put above the love seat. It has definitely been great to have this little patio this summer.

  2. I love it, Melissa...the cobblestones are beautiful and I really like the wicker and pillows! I think an outdoor rug will really "ground" the furniture and they are on sale everywhere. I like Overstock, the selection is incredible! I'm looking for one myself. We have a lot of palms on our patio, hubby loves them. In the winter we bring them in and keep them near a sunny window and they do just fine (we live in the Midwest). I have a blank wall, too, and I found a lot of large decorative pieces at Homegoods. We have a huge old looking clock (we bring it in during the winter, and some signs. You can get so many ideas there to perk up a blank space.

    Enjoy your cute patio! :)
